This is a very good idea on a sensitive topic!! I like how you are going to interview various family members to gain different perspectives! well done! I can see this being on channel 4 documentaries in a few years...

A really interesting, emotive subject which you will have to handle very sensitively. You should consider asking him about his ambitions in 10 years time and follow this up then. Have a look at this series http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Up_Series
You need to storyboard and shot list as well as doing lots of research you will also need a script, which will probably change as you film, and reseach into stats that you can flag up. Remember this only has to be a 5 minute excerpt of a documentary.
